Mowlem International’s team in Tema, Ghana, marked World Safety Day with a full day of activities centred on both physical and psychological safety — reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to building a positive, people-centred safety culture across all of its international operations.
The day began with a full-team safety briefing led by Samuel Kwamena, Samuel Agadzi and Patrice Marchi, and attended by Denise, Mowlem’s Head of SHEQ, who joined the Tema team on site for the occasion. The session focused on the importance of open communication, shared responsibility, and ensuring every colleague feels empowered to speak up
SHEQ Recognition Awards
A highlight of the day was the SHEQ Recognition Awards presentation, which celebrated individuals across the team who have made a meaningful contribution to safety — whether through their own actions on site, by supporting colleagues, or through positive impact in the wider community.
The awards are a testament to the everyday leadership that quietly strengthens safety culture, recognising those who go beyond the minimum and help create an environment where everyone can work with confidence and care.
Visible leadership from the top
The day’s programme concluded with a site visit from Mowlem’s Managing Director, sending a clear signal that safety leadership starts at the very top of the organisation. The visit reinforced the company’s mission, values and commitment to continuous improvement across all international operations.
World Safety Day is an important annual reminder that safety is not a one-off initiative or a box to be ticked — it is a culture, built day by day through actions large and small. Mowlem International is proud of the team in Tema for their dedication, and looks forward to continuing to strengthen this culture across every project and every region in which we operate.
